MLCCs - Multilayer Ceramic Capacitors

MLCCs are ceramic capacitors that are composed of alternating layers of metal and ceramic. These capacitors are commonly used in various electronic circuits, such as those found in cellular phones, laptops, and computers. They are valued for their small size, low cost, high reliability, and high frequency characteristics. MLCCs provide a variety of advantages over other capacitor types, such as low leakage currents, high capacitance stability, low equivalent series resistance (ESR), and high-temperature operation. MLCCs are divided into two categories: monolithic and multilayer. Monolithic MLCCs are generally used for high-frequency applications and they provide the best performance in terms of high frequency characteristics. Multilayer MLCCs are usually used for low-frequency applications due to their better performance in terms of lower ESR. In addition, MLCCs also provide excellent capacitance stability and low self-inductance. Since MLCCs are composed of multiple layers of ceramic and metal, they are not subject to degradation due to age, temperature, or vibration.
