Limiting Amplifiers

A limiting amplifier is a gain stage designed to limit the amplitude of a signal, usually to a predefined level. The limiting amplifier works by comparing the input signal to a reference voltage, usually determined by a potentiometer or a variable resistor. When the input signal reaches the defined level, the output is limited to the same level as the reference voltage. This prevents the output from going above the reference voltage and avoids distortion or clipping. Limiting amplifiers are used in audio applications where it is important to keep the signal within a certain range. Additionally, limiting amplifiers are used in radio and television broadcast systems to constrain the loudness of commercials and signals.
