Solar Panels & Solar Cells

Solar panels and solar cells are photovoltaic (PV) devices that convert the sun's energy into electricity. Solar panels contain multiple solar cells that use the sun's energy to produce electricity directly from sunlight. The electric circuit of the panels contains two layers of semiconductor material, typically silicon. When photons from the sun strike the top layer, electrons become energized and move from the top to the bottom layer, creating an electric current. Solar panels come in many sizes and shapes, depending on the application, and are typically mounted on the roof or walls of a building. Solar cells are smaller than solar panels and are used to power products such as calculators and watches. They contain one layer of semiconductor material and convert light energy directly into electrical energy. Solar cells can be combined to form solar panels, which are then connected to an inverter, allowing the electricity to be used in homes and businesses.
