Power Inductors - SMD

SMD (Surface Mount Device) power inductors are electronic components used in surface mount technology to store and release energy in the form of magnetic fields. The package size is denoted by a standardized code, such as 0603, 0805, or 1210, indicating the dimensions of the component in terms of length and width. When selecting SMD power inductors, key parameters to consider include inductance value, rated current, DC resistance, and saturation current. Inductance specifies the component's ability to store energy in its magnetic field, while rated current indicates the maximum current the inductor can handle without significant performance degradation. DC resistance is the resistance of the inductor's winding, impacting power loss and efficiency. Saturation current represents the maximum current at which the inductor's inductance begins to significantly decrease. SMD power inductors are chosen based on specific requirements such as the application's power demands, space constraints, operating frequency, and desired electrical characteristics.
