IEEE 1394 Connectors

IEEE 1394 connectors, also known as FireWire, are a serial bus standard created by Apple in 1995 and later standardized by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). The resulting standard is commonly referred to as IEEE 1394. IEEE 1394 data connectors are typically used in audio, video and data transfer applications, and are commonly found in digital video cameras and computer peripherals. They allow for much faster transfer speeds and greater versatility than most other connectors. The connectors also boast hot-plugging capabilities, allowing devices to be connected or disconnected while the computer is running, without the need for a restart. The connector consists of four, six or nine-pin configurations, though the nine-pin configuration is the most common. The four-pin and six-pin variants are mostly found in Apple products.
