Optical Sensor Modules

Optical Sensor Modules are devices that use the technologies of photodiodes, phototransistors, or optics to detect, interpret, and measure light. Optical sensors work by measuring the amount of reflected or transmitted light that is detected. They are used in a variety of applications such as motion detection, distance measurement, and environmental monitoring. Optical sensors can detect visible or infrared light and some types of intrusions or obstacles as well. The output signals can be electrical or optical depending on the specific module type. Optical Sensor Modules can provide information such as ambient light level, motion detection, object proximity, and presence. Recent progress in miniature optics and advances in MEMS based manufacturing processes have enabled Optical Sensor Modules to become increasingly prevalent in consumer electronic products. Such modules are suitable for embedded applications where small form factor and low power operation are essential. Advances in integrated optics and control systems provide higher performance in many applications. Optical Sensor Modules can be used to detect and measure a variety of environmental parameters such as temperature, humidity, wind speed, and water flow. Some modules are also capable of sensing motion, pressure, and acceleration. Optical Sensor Modules are becoming increasingly popular because of their low cost, their small size, and the fact that they can be integrated into electronics and connected to networks.
